The SAC was founded in 1998 by Martin V.Rijswk, Dr.Claus Pedersen, Captain Taz Lawrie and Datuk Hashim with the intention
of promoting the sport of Adventure Racing and to attract teams to Sabah.
Having established itself as one of the older of South East Asia, the SAC continues to operate without cash sponsorship
and on the support of volunteers and race entry fee's and is organized on a yearly basis.
Founded with the principle of "TAKE UP THE CHALLENGE," the SAC remains a foundation and stepping stone for teams hell
bent on a tough race and for other's, a stepping stone to the bigger races such as the Eco-Challenge or the Southern Traverse.
The SAC team include:
- Dr.Claus Pedersen, an experinced adventurer who has competed in the Raid Gauloises in Vietnam in 2002 (13th placing),
Southern Traverse (completed unranked) and most recently the Langkawi Nature Challenge (1st place).
- Captain Taz Lawrie is a triathlete by nature but has participated and won several Mountain Bike, duathlons and Triathlons
over the year's in Australia, East Malaysia and competed successfully in Adventure Races in West Malaysia and successfully
completed the New Zealand Coast to Coast Race in 2003.
- Avtar S.Sandhu began his passion for adventure sports as a high school sprinter, middle distance runner and eventually
competing in several one day adventure races in Washington State and completed the Army Ranger Challenge at Fort Lewis,WA
in 1995 in 2nd place. Having competed in several smaller races in Malaysia, he was drafted in as Race Director in 2001
and has remained the race manager ever since.
